Who am I?

My story of becoming a game developer...

Hello there! My name is Arnaud Vanderveken, graduate in Game Development at Digital Arts & Entertainment (aka DAE) in Belgium, specialized in 3D Graphics and rendering programming.

My interest in games started from my youngest age, observing my father's D&D sessions. It became a true passion after I realized I was more often asking myself "How is it made? How does it work behind the scene?" rather than trying to solve the games I played, and it's that curiosity and will to learn more that lead me on this track.

I love math and physics in general and I'm always interested in the technical sides of things. This is certainly why Engine Programming, Rendering and Graphics Programming in particular, are my favorite domains.

Before studying at DAE, I first studied Computer Science at the ULB - Université Libre de Bruxelles (University of Brussels). Even though I stopped after two years, as it wasn't heading towards what I wanted to do, the courses taught me extra skills that are useful in the game industry, like good code architecture and design, using UML diagrams, as well as C++ network programming, threading, and operating systems.

Soft Skills

> Open-minded: I'm always open to others' ideas/remarks and talk about it, in order to learn new things or improve my skills or even myself.

> Problem-Solver: Having a very logical thought process, I'm able to break down problems into smaller pieces and narrow it down to the root. I'm also strong at weighing the pro and cons of different solutions and identifying the potential underlying problems these might create.

> Adaptability: When learning something, I always go deeper to discover in depth how it works. This allows me to easily switch to another program/technology/programming language in a very short period of time, as I can transpose some of the previously acquired knowledge in the new environment.
